Mrs. Tiffany Steinhauser
Hello. My name is Mrs. Tiffany Steinhauser. You are probably visiting my page because I am your teacher or your child's teacher. Welcome to my Weebly site. Here is a little bit about me!
I am in my 18th year of teaching special education at Unity Middle School. I will have 19 years of total teaching experience when Christmas break! I can't believe I could possibly be THIS old :) My husband(Jeremy) and I live in Quincy with our 2 children. We are currently looking for a home in district because we'd like to move back into this area--maybe more in the country ;)
I have been married for nearly 13 years. We have a daughter, Morgan, who is almost 12 and a son, Carter, who is nearly 8. They both attend school here at Unity.
I was not what you would characterize as a book worm in school. I was a full-blown, all-in athlete. I played every sport I could until high school. I played in both boys and girls leagues around the Quincy Area. I play 4 years of varsity basketball and soccer in high school, as well as traveling teams. I also played in the Prairie State Games in my later years of high school, for the West Central Illinois squad out of Springfield. I played soccer on Quincy University's team at the time the girls made it to the NCAA Final Four-that would probably be the highlight of my experience. Soccer was my first love, you could say. I've played it, coached it, referred it, and breathed it.
A little bit about my education...I received my bachelors degree in the area of Special Education at Quincy University. I have a Masters Degree in Elementary Administration from William Woods University. I took 30 hours of training in Santa Clara, California through the University of California to become a specialist in Dyslexia. I have 36+ hours of training from the Institute of Multi-sensory Education and remediation training in a program called S.P.I.R.E. I am also trained through Southwest Baptist University in Southern, MO for Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Successful People.
In my spare time(what is that?!?), I like to read for pleasure. In my recent past, I have spent time coaching my daughters volleyball team. My husband and I love to go camping with our children and spend time outdoors. Kayaking is one of my newly found loves. Swimming when it is hot is about my favorite thing to do. Fall is my favorite time of the year! Football, bonfires, hoodies, hot coffee, and all the things pumpkin are at the things I love almost as much as my children.
My number one love is READING and teaching it! I believe that all children can learn to read and love it. I am passionate about remediation. I believe with the right remediation program, all children can be successful. I also believe that reading needs to begin with phonics--but a balanced approach to teaching kids to read is necessary for full-rounded success.
I love working with all children, but my heart is with the struggling learners. The best part of my job is seeing the lightbulb go on in their little heads and hearing them say, "I think I actually get this!" Part of my job, maybe the part I do best and the most important part, is building relationships with my students and their families. God's gift to me is the lasting friendships I have made through my work
